Soul Voices, founded in 2007 by conductor and arranger Professor Pete Malinverni, remains a place to celebrate the diverse and talented student body of Purchase College. The group’s mission is the exploration of the music of the African-American experience. This music, coming from the earliest travail of slavery through present day realities, tells of the triumph of the spirit over obstacles to self-realization and expression, surely a theme universal to all human experience. The music has, in turn, affected all of American and, by extension, world culture.

Comprised of young people of various backgrounds, interests and major study areas, the singers in the group come together to experience and express to their audience the unity possible via the great and universal gift of the human voice.
