Great food, gorgeous arias about children, and a tribute to honorees for their contributions to the arts in their communities.

Taconic Opera, now in its 19th season and past recipient of the Arts Organization of the Year Award in Westchester County, will hold its annual creative and highly entertaining fundraiser on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 7:00 pm at the C.V. Rich Mansion, 305 Ridgeway, White Plains, NY.  The Gala’s theme, Opera Has a Baby, will feature visiting artists who will perform famous operatic arias about young children while guests dine on a sumptuous meal in peaceful serenity - minus the noise, mess and spills of young children!  This event is an upbeat and unique way to honor three persons who have contributed to the arts and to their communities: Jun Nakabayashi, Georgianna Mitchell and Darrell Babboni. All Gala proceeds support Taconic Opera’s diverse and exciting 2016-2017 season of events, details of which can be found on the company’s website.

Jun Nakabayashi, Taconic Opera’s Music Director and Conductor for 16 of its 19 seasons and has not only been an invaluable asset and a main contributor to the company’s longevity.  He also serves on the faculty of the acclaimed Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale where he conducts the Festival Orchestra of young musicians and gives classes in conducting.  The orchestra was selected by the New York Philharmonic for a unique partnership called the Philharmonic Academy, Jr., whose goal is to help prepare the next generation of orchestra players.

Georgianna (Gem) Mitchell has had extensive not-for-profit board and volunteer experience over the last twenty years.  With her background in business management, she joined the Taconic Opera Board in 2009 to contribute to the continued success of the company and has also been a generous supporter of the arts in general.

Darrell Babboni is the president of one of the largest construction and home maintenance companies in Westchester County, HoneyDoMen.  A self-made entrepreneur, he is being honored not only for his longstanding support of Taconic Opera but also for his philanthropy in support of several organizations and services in his community that help the most vulnerable.

Attendance at the Gala will be by a partially tax deductible donation: Gold $250; Silver, $200; Bronze $150.  Discounts are available for groups of two or more and tables for eight.  Start time: 7:00 pm.  Tickets and reservations can be arranged online at http://www.taconicopera.org or by calling 1-855-886-7372.  Parking is plentiful in the vicinity and the venue is handicap accessible.
