Join Librarian BARBARA WENGLIN for our spring series using the rich anthology, /Stories of Fatherhood/, ed. by Diana Secker Tesdell (Everyman's Pocket Classics, c2014). For this session, please read “The Judgment” by Franz Kafka (p.215), a widely studied dark and complex father-son tale with a shocking ending, said to have launched the author’s Kafkaesque style. Also to read “The Man Who Lost His Father” by William Maxwell (p.347) in which the middle-aged narrator realizes that “in his father’s end was his own beginning," warmed by his memories and his father’s overcoat. A copy of the book is held on reserve at the Hub/Reference Desk for reading in the Library, with circulating copies available through the catalog. Program is supported by the Friends of the Library. |
