The Taconic Opera summer program for emerging opera singers, New York Opera Conservatory (NYOC), offers you an opportunity to hear the upcoming generation of professional singers as they gain valuable experience perfecting their craft. Established in 2018, the NYOC helps to fill an unmet need among trained singers to gain valuable hands-on experience through actual performance.

Each event in the series listed below will have a different cast, making every performance completely unique from all the others - an all-opera version of America’s Got Talent! Each performance includes the complete opera and is semi-staged (costumes, props).

July Opera: Tosca - Puccini

Among the most popular operas every written and with a truly memorable and despicable villain (Scarpia!), it is the tragic story of a singer in love with a painter who is harboring political prisoners in Rome during Italy’s war against Napoleon. She is torn between protecting her lover and keeping the Republic safe. Features the famous aria Vissi d’arte. Sung in Italian.

August Opera: Elixir of Love – Donizetti

Elixir is a comedy about a country bumpkin who falls madly in love with an educated girl who doesn’t return his affections. A snake oil salesman comes to town and sells him a “secret love potion” that will make anyone who drinks it fall in love with him. To our amusement, things don’t exactly work out as planned. Features the famous aria Una furtiva lagrima. Sung in Italian.
