To celebrate Women's History Month, each week of this workshop series for grades 4-8 will explore a different field of STEM and learn about historic women who were innovators in their field despite the challenges of their time. March 3 - Rachel Carson, the Mother of the Environmental Movement. Participants will learn about Rachel Carson and the formation of the EPA and Clean Water Act of 1972. While engaging in a small group engineering design challenge, participants will be asked to build and test a water filtration system to keep the Hudson River and Long Island Sound clean. |
