To celebrate Women's History Month, each week of this workshop series for grades 4-8 will explore a different field of STEM and learn about historic women who were innovators in their field despite the challenges of their time. March 17 - How Does Amelia Earhart Fly? Learn the history and physics behind aviation. Participants will build prototypes of flying machines out of recycled materials to help Amelia Earhart take her historic flight across the Atlantic. Junior engineers will be asked to test their prototypes in our wind tube. They will be learn simple mechanical physics to design their aircrafts to hover, flip and turn. Stay after the workshop to watch the film Amelia (PG, 111min) about the life of Amelia Earhart. |
