To celebrate Women's History Month, each week of this workshop series for grades 4-8 will explore a different field of STEM and learn about historic women who were innovators in their field despite the challenges of their time. March 31 - Building Emerald City: Women in City Planning. Participants will learn about the modern women architects, urban planners, and community organizers who are making a significant difference in Urban Planning today. They will learn basics of city planning by working collaboratively to plan, design and develop a city plan using the Land of Oz as the template. Stay after the workshop to watch the film Gorillas in the Mist (PG13, 150min) about the life of wildlife expert Dian Fossey and her time researching and working to save gorillas from extinction. |
