Building on this past spring's close reading of Toni Morrison's novel "Beloved," Slow Reading will dedicate the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 sessions to an in-depth study of some masterpieces of African-American literature. Featured on October 19 and 26 is "Notes of a Native Son" by James Baldwin. The essay can be found in Baldwin's "Notes of a Native Son" (1955) and in numerous anthologies. It can also be borrowed in digital form from Overdrive and Libby. Lambert has a Ph.D. from Yale in English and taught high-school English at The Dalton School for over 25 years.
