Blood supplies have dropped to a dangerously low level during the spring for several reasons, one of which is the surge in new cases of covid via the highly contagious Omicrom subvariant. Hospitals and patients rely on a steady flow of volunteer donors to receive life-saving blood donations, but the recent spike in cases along with less donors due to spring vacations has resulted in a serious problem. The Emanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville hopes to help by sponsoring a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the church on 197 Manville Road, Pleasantville. Both whole blood and red cells units will be collected from qualifying candidates.
All presenting donors will be given a “Local Hero” t-shirt. Although this drive makes it convenient for Pleasantville residents to participate, blood donors from all towns are welcome to come to lend their help. For questions regarding eligibility (travel, medications, last donation, etc): (800) 688-0900. TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT: (800) 933-2566. www.NYBloodCenter.org/donate-blood/
