Join us on Friday, April 12, 10 AM to 4 PM, for a commemoration of General Washington's visit to the church on that date in 1776, and stop over for a meal and a night at a tavern called Guion's, around the corner. It was a remarkable moment in the American Revolution. The general had just recorded one of the great triumphs of the war by compelling the British Army to evacuate Boston in March, leaving the Patriots in effective control of all 13 colonies less than four months before the Declaration of Independence. He was enroute to New York to defend the region against the widely expected British invasion -- which would come in late June of that year, and bring some of the war's most crushing defeats for the American cause. |
