Ballet des Amériques School and Company Perform at Emelin Theater

Saturday, June 16, 2018  03:00pm  05:00pm

On the heels of their Evenings of Dance in Port Chester and a performance at Tarrytown Music Hall, the dancers of Ballet des Amériques return to the Emelin Theatre for two matinee performances featuring the company's ever-evolving repertoire. To close the 2018-2019 performance season, Ballet des Amériques and it’s conservatory will be performing together at Emelin Theater in June.

The company will perform “Lentil Soup” choreographed by Artistic Director, Carole Alexis. “Lentil Soup” is an exploration of our human hunger and quest for spiritual nourishment. A series of Africa-inspired dances to the music of diverse artists suggests how our hunger is satisfied in various ways in communion with nature, with animals, plants, the earth and fire, with each other in religious and nonreligious communities, and indeed around the dinner table where we share a common meal.

The students of the conservatory will be performing “Jeux d’Enfants” or “Children’s Games”- a set of 12 miniatures composed by Georges Bizet, choreographed by Alexis.

Performances will be June 16 and 17 at 3pm. Tickets are $25-50 and seating is assigned. Tickets are available online at www.emelin.org or by calling the Emelin Theater Box office at 914-698-0098.

Established in 2011 under the directorship of French-American choreographer Carole Alexis, Ballet des Amériques, as its name implies, inserts itself into the French cultural heritage of the Americas. Composed of classically trained dancers of diverse backgrounds, the young company has already danced the choreography of Carole Alexis in over 50 public performances beginning with its debut at the Festival de Fort-de-France in Martinique in 2011. As the resident dance company of the Tarrytown Music Hall, Ballet des Amériques is building on the success of its Evenings of Dance series to develop a regional dance audience in Westchester and neighboring counties. With its local roots and international orientation, the company is poised to grow its audiences beyond dance connoisseurs to reach those who have never been exposed to this art and especially young people, in conscious fulfillment of the educational function of dance in the spirit of Maurice Béjart.
