Gerry Malkin Collective with Featured Guest Artist Trumpet Player Ingrid Jensen Perform ‘Post Bebop’ Sound at Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)

Saturday, July 28, 2018  07:30pm  10:30pm

On Saturday, July 28, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will continue its highly touted Jazz Masters series with the Gerry Malkin Collective, renowned artists who have been called a “quintessential… group that plays top-notch music” with pedigrees that “run deep in the jazz hierarchy.” This performance will feature guest artist Ingrid Jensen on trumpet, an Ossining resident and internationally renowned musician. Led by Malkin on tenor sax, the distinctive post bebop sound of the Collective interprets music of the classic era of mid-twentieth century jazz, from Miles Davis to John Coltrane. The group will play at WCT’s Black Box at 23 Water St. at 7:30pm.

Malkin has performed with internationally known artists ranging from Motown legends The Temptations and The Four Tops, to Tito Puente, Steve Johns, Adam Nussbaum and Dave Weckl. The other musicians, pianist Enrique Haneine; bassist Mike McGuirk, winner of the International Society of Jazz Bass Competition; and drummer Bobby Leonard have also performed with numerous jazz greats including Maynard Ferguson, Kenny Garrett and Ruth Brown. Jensen, the youngest professor in the history of the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, Austria, toured Europe in her 20s, then settled in NYC and joined the innovative jazz orchestras of Maria Schneider (1994-2012) and Darcy James Argue. She has performed with Grammy-winner Terri-Lyne Carrington and her Mosaic Project; jazz legends ranging from Clark Terry to Esperanza Spalding; British R&B artist Corrine Bailey Rae on Saturday Night Live; and recorded with Canadian pop icon Sarah McLachlan. She is a featured soloist on the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra’s Juno-award-winning album, Treelines (2011), and its successor, Habitat (2013). Jensen also leads her own quintet, quartet and organ trio that have garnered glowing reviews and a loyal fan base in Australia, South Africa, almost every country in Europe, across Canada, the US, South America (including Brazil, Peru and Chile), Japan and Mexico.

Tickets, $15, can be purchased online at wctheater.org (limited seating available; advance purchase is strongly recommended.) Refreshments will be available.
