Alexis’ Nutcracker Dream is a special one hour, family-friendly adaptation of the classic ballet, inspired by the work of Marius Petipa and Rudolf Nureyev. Carole Alexis created Nutcracker Dream to bring families and friends together around what she believes is the essence of the story, namely the beautiful balance between Marie’s childhood playfulness and her coming of age in the midst of family and friends.

ABOUT THE CHOREOGRAPHER

French-American choreographer Carole Alexis has electrified audiences with her Ballet des Amériques dance company since its foundation in 2011 and has won numerous awards and proclamations for her contributions to the arts and the advancement of culture. A student of Maurice Béjart, Alexis’ choreographic work is rooted in classical ballet training and tradition while drawing upon influences as disparate as children’s games, island rituals, natural phenomena, and modern urban life. Her dances entice and charm the viewer with elements of humor, psychological insight and surprise. Her company’s extensive and eclectic repertoire bears her distinctive signature and vision, reinvigorating “ballet” for new audiences and dance connoisseurs alike.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Proclaimed Westchester’s Premier Dance Company by the County Executive, Ballet des Amériques is committed to developing inclusive dance audiences regionally, nationally and internationally. Established in 2011, Ballet des Amériques is a company of classically trained dancers performing works of French-American director and choreographer Carole Alexis. Drawing on multifarious cultural traditions, these works transcend the established categories of classical, modern and contemporary dance in surprising and captivating ways. The company has been staging productions at the Emelin Theatre since 2012.
