Award-Winning Vocalist Lynette Washington featuring Dennis Bell Jazz NY -Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) Jazz Masters, Saturday, October 6

On Saturday, October 6, at 7:30 pm, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will continue its highly touted Jazz Masters series with Lynette Washington featuring Dennis Bell Jazz NY. Internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Lynette Washington, grand prize winner of the inaugural Jazzmobile/Anheuser-Busch Jazz Vocal Competition, and Dennis Bell, a Gold/Platinum award-winning pianist, producer, arranger, composer, conductor and music educator, will perform with bassist Paul Beaudry and drummer Lucianna Padmore at WCT’s Black Box at 23 Water St.

Lynette, whose style is also rooted in R & B and gospel, has been featured on WBGO's Singers Unlimited and prior albums have been in rotation on over 100 domestic and international radio stations. An accomplished songwriter/arranger as well, she has worked with such artists as Aretha Franklin, U2, Peter Gabriel and Richie Havens and a host of jazz icons including Clifford Jordan, Alex Blake, and Tom Browne. She was the featured lead singer with New Voices of Freedom, the Rockspel Choir who appeared in U2, Rattle & Hum and Scrooged, One World, One Voice (BBC/Virgin Records), Give Peace A Chance (music video with Lenny Kravitz), NY at Night, The Joan Rivers Show and the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards with James Brown and comedian Jimmy Fallon.
Lynette has recorded national radio and television commercials for Roy Rogers, Mercedes Benz and others and is an iTunes Essential Jazz Artist. Her albums include Live! At the Kennedy Center in Harlem; Long, Long Ago (A Jazz Celebration of Christmas, Chanukah & Kwanzaa); Live at the X (Celebrating the music of Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae & Shirley Horn); and her jazz cover of Paul McCartney’s My Valentine. A native New Yorker, she has appeared regularly at leading metropolitan area venues including Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, The Apollo Theater, B.B. King’s, Westchester Performing Arts Center, ArtWestchester’s New Urban Jazz Series, and White Plains Jazz Fest.

Keyboardist Dennis Bell has produced records by Lynette and Dave Valentin, New Voices of Freedom, U2, Touché, and others. A graduate of the High School of Music & Art and NYU with an M.A. in composition from CUNY Queens College, he was the musical director/conductor/re-arranger for the international tour of the B’way musical Jesus Christ Superstar and has written jingles for Drake’s, Hardees, Roy Rogers, and Nabisco.

Bassist Paul Beaudry, a San Francisco native now residing in New York, has toured worldwide as a sideman with such artists as Steve Turre, Wycliffe Gordon, and Eric Lewis and performed in concerts or on recordings with such jazz greats as Clark Terry, Charlie Persip, and Cecil Bridgewater.

Bronx native, New York-based drummer Lucianna Padmore, praised by Modern Drummer magazine for “Deep grooves and serious fusion chops”, is featured with artists in jazz, hip-hop, funk, rock, pop and fusion genres. An alumnus of LaGuardia High School for Music and the Performing Arts and The New School, Lucianna holds awards from Jazz at Lincoln Center and BMI for her jazz improvisation. 

The Westchester Collaborative Theater is a multicultural, cooperative theater company located in Ossining, NY, dedicated to developing new work for the stage and bringing live theater to the community. It is comprised of local playwrights, actors, and directors who employ a Lab approach in which new stage works are nurtured through an iterative process of readings, critiques, and rewrites. When work is ready for production, it is produced for the public at various local venues.
WCT is committed to furthering theater arts in our community. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and a recipient of production grants from ArtsWestchester and New York State Council on the Arts.
