"From One God to Another"

at Temple Israel of New Rochelle
"It seems that the Israeli society is being pulled apart:
Religious vs secular, Sephardi vs Ashkenazi, right-wing vs left
wing. The different affiliation groups in Israel contribute to the
unique and rich tapestry of the country as well as to it being one
of the world's most challenging societies."
Rabbi Gabby Dagan was born in Israel to a traditional Moroccan-Iranian
Orthodox family. He studied in one of the leading Ashkenazi Orthodox
Yeshivas in Israel, then served in the IDF as an Orthodox rabbi. After leaving
to live a secular life he then became the senior rabbi at one of the leading
Reform synagogues in Israel. This personal journey provides him with a
unique lens through which he can see surprising connections and similarities
between the seemingly opposite and adversarial, offering a personal,
hopeful point of view regarding the future of Israel’s society and the crucial
role of liberal Jewish life as a bridge and connector. Rabbi Dagan is now the
Senior Rabbi at Ohel Avraham synagogue at the Leo Baeck Center in Haifa
–the largest and oldest liberal organization in Israel.
