Hudson Chorale Concert at Maryknoll – In Paradisum: Fauré Requiem and More (January 26 & 27, 2019)

Saturday, January 26, 2019  03:00pm  04:30pm

Hudson Chorale, the area’s largest mixed voice chorus, is poised to please. The group will begin its 2019 season with two matinee concerts on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 3:00 pm and Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3:00 pm that highlight Gabriel Fauré’s exquisite Requiem with professional orchestra and soloists, along with a collection of motets by Felix Mendelssohn, Anton Bruckner and Johannes Brahms. There is no better place to experience a concert of sacred music than the magnificent and inspirational Queen of the Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll, 55 Ryder Road, Ossining, NY.

Fauré’s Requiem is the most famous and widely-performed work of the composer’s major compositions. He clearly conveys through the music his own thoughts about death, which are that it is “…a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than…a painful experience.” The concert takes its name from the In paradisum portion of the Requiem because it is truly heavenly and aptly describes how the program will uplift the spirits.

The motets by Mendelssohn, Bruckner and Brahms will be performed in their original German or Latin. Since most are sung a cappella, the acoustics of the Chapel provide a magnificent soundstage for these timeless pieces which will surround you with the kind of beauty that can only come from simplicity.

Music Director Maestro Ira Spaulding is a choral conductor, singer and master class instructor whose career spans 40 years of performance in more than 60 countries. He is currently Professor of Vocal and Choral Music at City College of New York and maintains a career abroad as a singer, teacher and conductor. Assistant Music Director David Baranowski, a household name to singers and audiences in the Westchester area due to his virtuosity on piano, keyboard, organ and harpsichord, will provide the organ accompaniment for the concert.

Following the concert, the audience is invited to an informal reception to meet and chat with the conductor, soloists, orchestra and chorus members while enjoying some delicious refreshments, a long-standing Hudson Chorale tradition. Ticket Prices: Advance Sale-$25; Door-$30; Students-$10. Advanced Sale tickets can be purchased on-line at www.HudsonChorale.org by calling 1-800-838-3006. Handicap parking is available at the venue.
