County Executive George Latimer invites you to attend the annual Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) Legislative Breakfast on Friday January 25, 2019 from 9:30 a.m.to 11:30 a.m. at the Westchester County Center, 198 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY. The Legislative Breakfast is an important opportunity for you to advocate for federal and state support for aging services. We invite Collaborative Chairs to provide updates on legislation and challenges that impact their area of focus. We’ve also invited our federal, state and county legislators to provide updates. This event is free and open to the public and designed to engage legislators and community members in a conversation about aging services, new programs and initiatives at a federal, state and local level that assist services for seniors. Registration is not required to participate or to speak. 2019 is and will continue to be a very challenging year for older persons starting with the government shutdown and withholding of important benefits; significant changes in the allowable federal tax deductions; and, the increasing lack of affordable housing for older persons and the workforce that provides care. As an advocate for seniors, we welcome your participation and input. Education, advocacy and collaboration are the components for positive change. An educated advocate is the best resource for empowerment and policy change. Thank you for your continuous support and commitment. We look forward to your active participation. Sincerely, Mae Carpenter, Commissioner |
