Join us on Sunday, April 7th, as we Kick In to Stop Sarcoidosis (K.I.S.S.)! Walk, run, or roll around the track at Mamaroneck High School for one symbolic lap, or go round and round again for miles if you're willing and able! All registered participants will receive a t-shirt and other SWAG. All proceeds will be donated to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research. "For years, I participated in walkathons (and even ran a little) to support people with cancer, MS, diabetes, arthritis, and most recently, sarcoidosis. As my illness progressed, walking that much became painful, then more difficult, then downright impossible. I shifted to volunteering at the events instead, but missed being able to literally "go the distance" with the rest of my team. I've since bought a mobility scooter, so now I'm able to keep up at events like this. So whether you can walk or run it on your own, or you'll go the distance with the support of a rollator, wheelchair, or scooter, this Walk 'n' Roll is for you!" -Kerry Wong, Walk Leader Event Schedule: Registration/Check-In: 9:30am Great news! This year, the website is set up to allow TEAMS! We all know it takes a team to help us get through life with sarcoidosis ... so now you can bring that team to #KISSWestchester! Form a team with your family, friends, coworkers ... even your doctors! The more the merrier ... and it starts with YOU! Visit https://stopsarcoidosis.rallybound.org/KISSWestchester2019 to start your team, join a team, register as an individual, or make a donation. BIG thanks to our in-kind Entertainment Sponsor, Big Town Productions, who will provide the soundtrack & keep the energy going for the whole event! Extra Info Sarcoidosis (pronounced SAR-COY-DOE-SIS) is an inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of granulomas—tiny clumps of inflammatory cells—in one or more organs of the body. When the immune system goes into overdrive and too many of these clumps form, they can interfere with an organ’s structure and function. When left unchecked, chronic inflammation can lead to fibrosis, which is the permanent scarring of organ tissue. This disorder affects the lungs in approximately 90% of cases, but it can affect almost any organ in the body. Despite increasing advances in research, sarcoidosis remains difficult to diagnose with limited treatment options and no known cure. |
