Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center-“In Darkness” Film Screening and Discussion Join us for the showing and discussion of “In Darkness” from the director of “Europa Europa.” “In Darkness” is based on the true story detailed in “The Girl in the Green Sweater.” Leopold Socha is a sewer worker and petty thief in Lvov, a Nazi-occupied city in Poland. One day he encounters a group of Jews trying to escape the liquidation of the ghetto. He hides them for money in the labyrinth of the sewers. What begins as a cynical business arrangement turns into an unexpected, unlikely alliance between Socha and “his” Jews, as the enterprise seeps deeper into Socha’s conscience. The film is an extraordinary story of survival as men, women, and children try to outwit certain death during 14 months of ever increasing and intense danger. The discussion of the film will take place at West Point Military Academy, Bartlett Hall, 753 Cullum Road, Room 454, West Point, NY 10996, April 30, from 6 pm – 7 pm. Our special guests will be survivor, Christine Keren, and co-author of “The Girl in the Green Sweater”, Dan Paisner. The film will begin at 7 pm. Light refreshments will be provided. There is no admission charge and open to all. For more information, please contact Michael Arden (845)938-1181 or The Harold A.
