Booklovers think of books as being a stack of pages bound together between covers. But artists' books are different. Artists' books are unique, handmade works of art that push the boundaries of the traditional book form. They are innovative books created with nontraditional materials, distinctive shapes, and unusual bindings. The pages may be thin as tissue paper, hard as wood, or clear as glass. They are meant to be viewed as aesthetic objects rather than conveyors of information, although they may be both. In this presentation, you'll see imaginative books made with such unorthodox objects as sneaker innersoles, teabags, dominoes, slices of fruit. You may question if it's a book if it cannot be opened, if it has no pages, if it has no cover, if its pages are not bound. You may not be able to tell it's a book just by looking at it. What truly makes an artist’s book is the artist’s intent. The presentation includes digital slides of several hundred of these amazing books– books that delight the eye and intrigue the imagination.Sponsored by The Friends of the LibraryLocation of event - upstairs in the large meeting room More Info: FamousElinor.com and also PictureTrail.com/PhotoCraftDiva |
