This four week introduction to genealogy is intended for those who have recently started to explore their family's history or those who want to and don't know how to begin. Having learned what records might be of help to us in our research, session three will look at where these records can be found. No, not everything is on the internet, so we will look at what you can learn from visiting local and national archives and yes, even the library. Our final session will be devoted to way of presenting and preserving what you have gathered. We'll look at ways to protect the documents you have gathered and how to share all you've learned with family members and, if you wish, the larger public. Presented by Dr. Alan Steinfeld. Dr. Steinfeld has been exploring his family’s genealogy for over 40 years. A native of New York City, he traces his ancestry to Russia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His studies have turned up over 2500 relatives and have stimulated a book on the subject as well as a family newsletter, now in its 30th year. His support of the larger genealogy community includes participation in the indexing of records for the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry and the American Jewish Historical Society. Registration is required. Participants are encouraged to attend all four weeks. Registering at the October 8 calendar entry registers you for the full four-weeks. |
