Wonder Women of STEM Workshop: Katherine Johnson (Grades 4-8)

To celebrate Women's History Month, each week of this workshop series for grades 4-8 will explore a different field of STEM and learn about historic women who were innovators in their field despite the challenges of their time. March 10 - Katherine Johnson, One Giant Leap… NASA could not send astronauts into space without math! “Hidden Figures” Mathematician, Katherine Johnson was responsible for ensuring that astronauts reached the moon and returned safely with calculations of trajectories. Participants will be engaged in various aerospace challenges and activities while learning about the early days of the Space Race that lead to the USA going to the moon. Stay after the workshop to watch the film Hidden Figures (PG, 127min) that tells the story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson.
