The Old Guard of Westchester is a not-for-profit organization, with roots that go back to 1954.  Old Guard members are residents of Westchester County and neighboring communities.  We are retired or semi-retired men who had careers such as businessmen, lawyers, doctors, managers, financiers, writers, teachers, and communication specialists.

We meet every Tuesday at the Ethical Culture Society building in White Plains to socialize and listen to guest speakers on topics including local, regional and national social issues, economic and political topics, medicine and other science related subjects. Our programs are available to the public in person and via ZOOM Virtual Meetings.  For information regarding attendance at a specific event, and for ZOOM meeting information, please contact us via the following link Program Information

Extra Info    Despite the fact that public health has had many successes in the past and saved countless lives through vaccinations, public health has recently been thrust into the spotlight and put on the defensive through a movement of opposition. This opposition has become so concerning that the World Health Organization now considers vaccine hesitancy as one of the ten leading threats to global health. How did this happen? This talk will focus on how resistance to childhood vaccinations (for diseases like measles, mumps, whooping cough) and other public health measures has grown, especially recently with the COVID vaccines, and how this resistance may potentially have serious impacts on all of us. Specifically, we will review the history of vaccines and hesitancy, the reasons for vaccine hesitancy, the challenges of effective public health messaging and the role that state governments may play.
