The Friends of Crawford Park are proud to present Music at the Mansion, an acoustic music series held at the historic Crawford Mansion on the grounds of Crawford Park in Rye Brook, NY.
COSY SHERIDAN w/ guest MATT NAKOA
Cosy Sheridan has been called “one of the era’s finest and most thoughtful singer-songwriters.” She first caught the attention of national folk audiences in 1992 when she won both the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Award and The Telluride Bluegrass Festival Troubadour Contest, then released her critically-acclaimed debut CD Quietly Led on Waterbug Records.
She has released 12 CDs, her music is featured in the Robert Fulghum multi-media novel The Third Wish and she tours consistently throughout the US. Her concerts are wide-ranging explorations of modern mythology (meet Hades the Biker), love songs for adults, contemporary philosophy for the thoughtfully-minded and her signature parody on aging and women. Throughout this journey, her lyrical dexterity is backed by her distinctive, percussive bluesy-gospel guitar style.
PRESS QUOTES:
“Her user-friendly musical philosophy sets her happily apart from the myopic, self-involved songwriters…She is a wonderfully lively, very funny and enormously amiable entertainer with a keen and wicked eye for the excesses of our fast-food, tv-happy and noisome culture.” — The Boston Globe
“You can’t make it into double digits, and continue touring for twenty or so years, unless you know what you’re doing, and do it well. Rarely do you find a CD where every song is memorable. It happens, just not often. It happens here.” — The Chicago Examiner
Matt Nakoa grew up on a farm in New York State and began composing music as a teenager. He won a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston where he received top honors in songwriting and vocal performance. While at Berklee, he studied closely with song-greats Pat Pattison and Livingston Taylor, and collaborated with grammy-winners Esperanza Spaulding and Kathy Mattea. Matt is a 2014 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Winner and has recently given concerts at The White House and in India. He currently lives in Brooklyn.
Tickets for this show are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Doors open at 7PM. Refreshments are available at the show, including beer and wine. |
