A Reading of The Vagina Monologues to Benefit Hope's Door

Saturday, February 14, 2015  06:30pm

On Saturday, February 14, 2015, the South Presbyterian Church of Dobbs Ferry will present a reading of The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler.  Hope’s Door, a nonprofit based in Pleasantville, NY, that seeks to end domestic violence and to empower victims to achieve safety, independence, and healing from the trauma of abuse, will receive all net proceeds from the event.

Eve Ensler developed The Vagina Monologues in 1994, unknowingly starting a worldwide movement for social change; raising awareness and moving the public to act to end violence against women.  Every year, performers around the world read The Vagina Monologues and raise funds for their local organizations which work to end violence against women.

Not for kids under age 16, The Vagina Monologues is a raw and powerful presentation of the voices of women.  “Just hearing the stories, one after the other, is an act of communal healing”, says Sophie Hayden of Hastings, a Tony nominated actress and South Presbyterian Church member who will read in the performance. Other notable performers include Choir Director Sarah Brockus; Broadway actress Meg Bussert; stage & film actress Maddie Corman; soprano and yoga teacher Patricia Fischer; model & TV actress Laura Giannone; South’s transitional pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jane Ann Groom; singer/actress Emily Herring; “Tales from a Boy Addict” blogger Leslie Hoot; activist Jean Howell; choral singer & “Raging Granny” Betty Perkins; pastor of NYC’s Love Alive Sanctuary of Praise, the Rev. Dr. Lisa Robinson; artist & author Donna Thompson; singing group The Raging Grannies, and other inspired voices.

The event will take place at the South Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, 343 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522.  Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and the performance will start at 7:30 pm.  Tickets will only be sold at the door; tickets will be $20 for the general public, and $10 for seniors and students.  For more information on the event, contact Marie-Louise Miller at or Rev. Dr. Jane Ann Groom at .
