“By any other word would smell as sweet. But, soft! What light through yonder window break? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.”-Romeo. Embroiled in a feud ignited by their own families, Romeo and Juliet find their world at odds between an unwavering devotion to each other and the pressure from others to pull them apart. This 90 –minute production also features a talkback with the actors. Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival’s ROMEO AND JULIET will be set in a New England prep school. The Montague’s and Capulet’s are elite families who have sent their children to this school for generations. While united by class, they are bitterly divided by tradition and ideology. There are rifts and tensions at the school involving wealthy students and scholarship students, parents and children, teachers and staff. The Nurse is Juliet’s nanny; the friars are faculty. |
