Saturday, December 16, 2017  05:00pm

Ballet des Amériques will present its annual production of “The Nutcracker Dream” at the Ballet des Amériques studios in Port Chester this December. The audience will step into Marie’s dream, a magical adaptation of the traditional Nutcracker. Marie falls asleep and envisions a grand party, which then morphs into The Land of Sweets.

The ballet was choreographed and coached by Artistic Director Carole Alexis, with excerpts after Rudolph Nureyev. The performance will feature the students of the Ballet des Amériques School, supported by the professional dancers of the company. The students will play the children in the party scene and various sweets in the Act Two Land of the Sweets.

Ballet des Amériques’ “The Nutcracker Dream” is a child and family friendly ballet that is a wonderful way to ring in the holiday season. Performances are Saturday, December 16 at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. as well as Sunday, December 17 at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and available for purchase through the company’s website or by emailing .

Established in 2011 under the directorship of French-American choreographer Carole Alexis, Ballet des Amériques, as its name implies, inserts itself into the French cultural heritage of the Americas. Composed of classically trained dancers of diverse backgrounds, the young company has already danced the choreography of Carole Alexis in over 50 public performances beginning with its debut at the Festival de Fort-de-France in Martinique in 2011. As the resident dance company of the Tarrytown Music Hall, Ballet des Amériques is building on the success of its Evenings of Dance series to develop a regional dance audience in Westchester and neighboring counties. With its local roots and international orientation, the company is poised to grow its audiences beyond dance connoisseurs to reach those who have never been exposed to this art and especially young people, in conscious fulfillment of the educational function of dance in the spirit of Maurice Béjart.
